The Texas Rangers have been up and down so far this Spring Training, but there have been quite a few headlines about the defending World Champions. In this article, I’ll take a look at three headlines and share my thoughts with you. Let’s start now.
3. Texas Rangers’ New Jerseys
The Texas Rangers recently unveiled their new, gold-trimmed jerseys to commemorate their first World Series championship.
As you can see, Texas proved that the World Series champs do indeed wear gold. Here’s a close-up look at the gold details for both the jerseys and the hats (with the gold “T” logos).
There has been a lot of talk about MLB’s new jerseys from Nike and Fanatics, who have faced sharp criticism for their revamped look, which includes smaller name lettering on the backs of the jerseys. But the Rangers’ new jerseys are just fine, and if I may say, golden.
2. Texas Rangers’ Options
The Rangers optioned five players to the minor leagues on Sunday. Those five players are Sam Huff (catcher), Cole Winn (right-handed pitcher), Antoine Kelly (left-handed pitcher), Jonathan Ornelas (shortstop), and Jose Corniell (right-handed pitcher). Huff, Winn, Kelly, and Ornelas will head to the Triple-A Round Rock Express, while Corniell will head to the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told the media, “We’re just running out of innings .. We’re breaking camp here in two weeks.” The Rangers optioned these five players as they continue to fine-tune their roster ahead of MLB Opening Day in a little over two weeks. In my opinion, Texas made the right decision for the time being, as most of these five players aren’t ready for the big leagues yet. The Rangers will host the Chicago Cubs at Globe Life Field on March 28, 2024. Good luck to the Rangers!
1. Texas Rangers’ Possible Redemption Attempt
The Rangers recently claimed Jose Barrero (shortstop) on waivers from the Cincinnati Reds. Barrero was originally signed by the Reds out of Havana, Cuba in 2017. The Rangers made room on their 40-man roster for Barrero by placing Carson Coleman (right-handed pitcher) on the 60-day IL. Coleman is still recovering from right elbow injury in early 2023. The Rangers seemed to have signed Barrero to take a closer look at him and maybe sneak him through waivers and outright him sometime before the end of this year’s Spring Training. The Rangers’ youth movement has already started, and Barrero might be a regular in the Rangers’ plans. After all, Barrero could be another reclamation project similar to the Rangers’ signing of fellow Cuban MLB player Adolis Garcia (outfielder) to a two-year contract extension on February 8, 2024. Barrero could bounce back.
