The Washington Nationals are facing the St. Louis Cardinals today in Grapefruit League play. Washington is 12-11 this spring. The Nationals had Jake Irvin start today and he went 5.2 innings giving up six runs on ten hits. He walked two and struck out four. They made some moves trimming their roster down as they have sent down their 12th ranked prospect outfielder Robert Hassell III and third baseman Trey Lipscomb. Both are heading to Triple-A Rochester.

Robert Hassell III

Hassell this spring in 21 games hit .370 with a .952 OPS. He had five doubles, a home run, five RBI, and seven runs scored. Last season he played across three levels in the Nationals system playing at High-A Wilmington, Double-A Harrisburg, and Triple-A Rochester. In 85 games he hit .241 with a .647 OPS. Hassell had nine doubles, two triples, five home runs, 28 RBI, and 44 runs scored. In the fall he played for Salt River of the Arizona Fall League. In 22 games he hit .281 with a .877 OPS. Hassell had seven doubles, a triple, four home runs, 19 RBI, and 17 runs scored.

Trey Lipscomb

Lipscomb this spring in 14 games he hit .280 with a .699 OPS. He had an RBI, and four runs scored. He played in 61 games with the Nationals last season hitting .200 with a .500 OPS. Lipscomb had three doubles, a home run, ten RBI, and 20 runs scored; he added 11 stolen bases. He also played at Triple-A Rochester hitting .283 with a .738 OPS in 65 games. Lipscomb had 14 doubles, four home runs, 35 RBI, and 31 runs scored.
