Two Boston Red Sox Prospects Named Player of the Month

The Boston Red Sox minor league teams wrapped up the month of June going a combined 49-53. The Triple-A Worcester Red Sox finished 12-13 and High-A Greenville finished 10-16 were the two affiliates to finish with losing records while the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs finished 13-12 and the Single-A Salem Red Sox who finished 14-12 were the two affiliates to finish with winning records. 

Two of the Red Sox prospects finished the month taking home some hardware as Player of the Month for June with Kristian Campbell taking home Hitter of the Month for the Eastern League representing the Portland Sea Dogs Campbell made his Sea Dogs debut on June 4th after spending the time with Greenville. He finished June hitting .420 with a 1.182 OPS with Portland; he had six doubles, a triple, four home runs, 15 RBI, 21 runs scored, 13 walks, and four stolen bases. Between Greenville and Portland entering today he has played in 65 games hitting .347 with a 1.047 OPS; he has 21 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 43 RBI, 50 runs scored, 40 walks, and eight stolen bases. 

The other prospect to take home some hardware for June is Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz who took home Pitcher of the Month for the Carolina League representing the Salem Red Sox. Rodriguez-Cruz made four starts going 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.75 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts in 20 innings; he gave up two runs in the month, both were unearned. This season he’s made 13 starts with 12 of those coming as starts going 2-4 with a 2.44 ERA, and a 1.16 WHIP, opponents are hitting .205 against him and he has 68 strikeouts in 55.1 innings.
