Toronto Blue Jays Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Toronto Blue Jays tonight will kick off a three-game series against the Oakland A’s with Chris Bassitt making the start against his former team in the A’s and they counter with Hogan Harris. Before tonight’s game, the Blue Jays had a lot going on with infielder Spencer Horwitz being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and Cavan Biggio being designated for assignment. Also on top of all of that, it was announced today that Alek Manoah will undergo UCL surgery on the 17th, the exact procedure is TBD it could be Tommy John it also could be to repair the brace but his season is over according to John Schneider.

Blue Jays Roster Moves By The Numbers

INF – Cavan Biggio

Biggio was one of the big three for the Blue Jays but things haven’t panned out through six seasons with the Blue Jays he’s hit .227 with a .725 OPS; he’s had 77 doubles, four triples, 48 home runs, 176 RBI, 246 runs scored, 32 stolen bases, and 241 walks. This season through 44 games he’s hit .200 with a .614 OPS; he has four doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, 15 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 14 walks.

INF – Spencer Horwitz

Horwitz was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 24th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. In the minor he’s appeared in 448 games hitting .307 with a .884 OPS; he has 134 doubles, six triples, 42 home runs, 279 RBI, 284 runs scored, 28 stolen bases, and 289 walks. This season with Toronto in 57 games he’s hitting .335 with a .970 OPS; he has 22 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 38 RBI, 41 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 44 walks.

RHP – Alek Manoah

Manoah was drafted by the Blue Jays in the first round of the 2019 Draft with the 11th overall pick. Through four seasons he went 29-20 in 75 starts with a 3.34 ERA, a 4.13 FIP, a 1.16 WHIP, and 412 strikeouts in 420 innings. He finished third in the Cy Young voting in 2022 but things fell off for him after that. This season in five starts he was 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA, a 5.15 FIP, a 1.02 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.
