The Toronto Blue Jays today lost to the Baltimore Orioles in Grapefruit League play and have a day off tomorrow. They announced today that their starting pitcher for Opening Day will be Jose Berrios. They also announced today that relief pitchers Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson have suffered setbacks; Romano is dealing with some right elbow inflammation and Swanson is dealing with right forearm tightness. Romano is going to get an anti-inflammatory injection while Swanson had an MRI and no injury or inflammation just no throwing for a day or two. Today they also signed RHP Mike Mayers to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training.

RHP – Mike Mayers

Mayers last season spent time with the Kansas City Royals and their Triple-A affiliate as well as the Chicago White Sox Triple-A affiliate. With the Royals, he appeared in six games with two coming as starts going 1-2 with a 6.15 ERA, a 1.67 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. In Triple-A with both affiliates, he made 28 appearances with 13 coming as starts going 4-5 with a 6.12 ERA, a 1.61 WHIP, and 62 strikeouts in 75 innings. Throughout his major league career he has spent time with the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels, and Royals appearing in 204 games with eight of those coming as starts he is 12-11 with a 5.21 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 265 strikeouts in 262.2 innings.
