Is It Time for the Toronto Blue Jays to Rebuild

The Toronto Blue Jays wrapped up the first half 44-52 and sit in fifth place in the American League East. They just wrapped up the first half with a series loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks but salvaged the final game of the series winning 8-7 on Sunday. Then they turned their focus to the draft where they selected RHP Trey Yesavage from East Carolina in the first round and then selected RHP Khal Stephen in round two out of Mississippi State.

RHP – Trey Yesavage – East Carolina Pirates

Yesavage spent three seasons at East Carolina making 65 appearances with 29 of those coming as starts going 19-2 with a 2.58 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, a 3.4 BB/9, and a 13.6 K/9 in 195.1 innings. In his first season, he appeared in 34 games going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA, a 1.73 WHIP, a 6.6 BB/9, and a 15.6 K/9 in 26 innings. Following that season, he pitched in the Valley League for Charlottesville making five appearances with four of those coming as starts going 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, a 4.5 BB/9, and a 12.5 K/9 in 18 innings. In his second season at East Carolina, he made 16 appearances with 14 of those coming as starts going 7-1 with a 2.61 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, a 2.7 BB/9, and a 12.4 K/9 in 76 innings. This season, he made 15 starts going 11-1 with a 2.03 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, a 3.1 BB/9, and a 14.0 K/9 in 93.1 innings.

RHP – Khal Stephen – Mississippi State Bulldogs

Stephen finished his college career at Mississippi State after spending the first two seasons at Purdue. He made 53 appearances with 30 of those coming as starts going 18-11 with a 4.81 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, a 3.0 BB/9, and a 9.2 K/9 in 205.2 innings. In his first season at Purdue, he made 23 appearances going 3-4 with an 8.29 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, a 4.8 BB/9, and a 10.2 K/9 in 33.2 innings. That following summer he played in the Prospect League for Danville appearing in five games with three of those coming as starts going 4-0 with a 2.03 ERA, a 0.86 WHIP, a 1.4 BB/9, and a 12.2 K/9 in 26.2 innings. In his second season at Purdue, he made 14 starts going 7-4 with a 5.21 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, a 3.6 BB/9, and a 7.8 K/9 in 76 innings. Following that season he played in the Cape Cod Baseball League for Yarmouth-Dennis making six starts going 2-2 with a 2.73 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, a 3.8 BB/9, and a 9.2 K/9 in 26.1 innings. This season he transferred to Mississippi State where he made 16 starts going 8-3 with a 3.28 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, a 2.0 BB/9, and a 10.0 K/9 in 96 innings.
