
The 2025 season is just six days old, and we have our first trade as the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros have agreed to a trade. The Blue Jays will send right-handed pitcher Nick Robertson to the Astros. The Blue Jays are acquiring right-handed pitcher Edinson Batista from the Astros.

Nick Robertson
Robertson has spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox in 2023, making 18 appearances, with one of those coming as a start. He was 0-1 with a 6.04 ERA, a 3.88 FIP, a 1.75 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. Last season, between the St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays, he made nine appearances with a 4.05 ERA, a 4.44 FIP, a 1.28 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 13.1 innings. He made one appearance with Toronto, going one inning without anyone reaching base, a run, or a strikeout. This spring, he made two appearances, recording a save. He had a 0.00 ERA, a 0.67 WHIP, and three strikeouts in three innings. The Blue Jays recently designated him for assignment.
Edinson Batista
Batista has been in the Houston Astros system for five seasons. In 88 career games with 33 of those coming as starts, going 19-14. Batista has a 4.77 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP, and 335 strikeouts in 313.1 innings. He’s never made it past High-A, where he spent last season. In 26 appearances and 16 of those coming as starts, he went 6-6 with a 5.01 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 103 strikeouts in 115 innings.
