Top 5 Longest Home Runs at Yankee Stadium

Top 5 home runs at Yankee Stadium

Since its inaugural season in 2009, Yankee Stadium has become a breeding ground for the long ball. The ballpark is known for its “Short Porch,” standing at a mere 314 ft from home plate, while the left field wall stands at 318 ft. The farthest point measuring from home plate to the outfield wall is at dead center, 408 ft.

The moonshots below wouldn’t have trouble leaving any ballpark, but hitting them in Yankee Stadium makes them all the more special.

5). Raul Ibanez, May 22, 2009, for Phillies – 477 feet

A full three seasons before Ibanez went on a postseason tear as a Yankee, he launched a rocket off of Chien-Ming Wang. The shot cleared the right-field bullpen and landed in the bleachers as part of a 7-3 Phillies win.

4) Gary Sánchez, June 21, 2019, vs. Astros – 481 feet

“When I hit that ball, I knew I hit it hard…But I had no clue it went that far.”

The second-longest home run of Gary Sanchez’s career, this shot came off his bat at 113.3 mph and powered the Yankees to victory against the Astros. Brad Peacock threw a changeup at the bottom of the zone, and the ball was promptly sent over the left-field bullpen. It was Sanchez’s 23rd home run of the season at that point and he was then tied as the AL home run leader.

3) Giancarlo Stanton, April 2, 2023, vs. Giants — 485 feet

It’s the latest home run on this list. Ross Stripling threw an 87 mph hanging slider near the bottom of the zone, and Stanton made him pay for it. This impressive shot cleared historic Monument Park and landed on the patio deck above the restaurant in center field. This home run is measured to be Stanton’s second-longest homerun, behind his legendary 500+ footer at Coors Field seven years prior.

2) Aaron Judge, June 11, 2017, vs. Orioles – 495 feet

This is the first entry on this list for the current Yankee captain. However, This home run happened in his rookie season when Judge was seen as one of the most electric rising stars in the league.

Logan Verrett threw a slider belt-high to a 6-foot 7-inch Judge, and the ball was considered history shortly after. The moonshot was Judge’s 20th home run of the season en route to a 52-home run effort. Judge later finished the season by capturing the AL Rookie of the Year, an All-Star selection, Silver Slugger, and 2nd in MVP voting, trailing Houston’s José Altuve.

1) Aaron Judge, September 30, 2017, vs. Blue Jays – 496 feet

Ending this list with the heart of the team is fitting. This home run capped the eventual captain’s historic 52-home run rookie season and led the Yankees to a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Marcus Stroman threw a 93 mph pitch slightly inside to Judge, and as the crack of the bat was heard through the stadium, chants of “M-V-P” rained down from the stands. Statcast measures this ball to be hit at a monstrous 496 feet, flying at 118.3 mph off the bat while soaring over the left-field bleachers.

This home run also broke Babe Ruth’s record of 32 home runs hit by a Yankee at home, which had stood for 96 years. A 25-year-old Judge commented that surpassing Ruth’s record was a “pretty incredible accomplishment.” At the same time, then-manager Joe Girardi spoke on how dangerous Judge is in the batter’s box: “When he gets the barrel of the bat to the ball, he’s extremely dangerous.”
