Tommy Pham Leaves Game vs. Yankees

The Pittsburgh Pirates in the middle of their home opener against the Yankees are down 7-1. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Tommy Pham grounded out to the pitcher Max Fried. When the Pirates took the field in top of the third Pham did not come out of the dugout. Alexander Canario replaced Pham in center field. Pham is hitting .083 with a .339 OPS. He has a double, a run scored, and three stolen bases. The Pirates acquired Canario on March 31 from the New York Mets for cash.

Pham is entering his 12th season and has been a true journeyman. The Pirates are his tenth team. Pham has played for the St. Louis Cardinals on two stints, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Kansas City Royals. Pham’s played in 1,129 games posting a slash line of .257/.345/.425 with a .770 OPS; he has 184 doubles, 24 triples, 139 home runs, 470 RBI, 609 runs scored, 129 stolen bases, and 492 walks.

Pham, spent time with the White Sox, Cardinals, and Royals in 2024. He played in 116 games and posting a slash line of .248/.305/.368 with a .674 OPS; he had 20 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 39 RBI, 49 runs scored, seven stolen bases, and 35 walks. He finished 11th in MVP voting in 2017. Pham was a key piece in the deep postseason run by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023.
