Following a 3-1 win in the series finale against the Padres, the Detroit Tigers promoted a handful of prospects. The West Michigan Whitecaps, Erie SeaWolves, and Toledo Mud Hens are adding some talent to their rosters as top Tigers prospects are getting closer to the Motor City.

2022 1st round pick Jace Jung promoted to Erie

The Detroit Tigers drafted INF Jace Jung with the 12th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. The former Texas Tech standout played 30 games last season for the Tigers High-A minor league affiliate, the West Michigan Whitecaps. This season, Jung has played 80 games for West Michigan. He slashed .248/.371/.452. Jung had 34 extra-base hits, 14 of them Home Runs. Those stats are slightly misleading because Jung had an active 22-game on-bass streak with the Whitecaps before the promotion. His hot streak played a significant role in his call-up. Jace Jung is the younger brother of Texas Rangers all-star 3rd baseman Josh Jung. If all goes well, Jace is projected to be the everyday 2nd baseman in the next couple of years in Detroit.

2021 1st round pick Jackson Jobe promoted to West Michigan Whitecaps

Well, the Whitecaps lost a Tigers 1st round pick and got one right back. Former 3rd overall pick Jackson Jobe, a RHP chosen out of high school, is coming off of a stint on the IL. He’s getting called up from Lakeland, where he played for the Flying Tigers, to West Michigan. It will be the 2nd time that In Jobe has played for West Michigan in his career. In 2022, Jobe pitched in 3 games for the Whitecaps. He had a 2-0 record with a 1.15 ERA, 10 K’s, and five walks. This season, with Lakeland, Jobe appeared in 6 games. He was 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA, 20 K’s, and three walks in 16 innings pitched.

Tigers promote INF Wenceel Pèrez to Triple-A Toledo

After five games in Low-A this season, Pèrez played a significant role for the Erie SeaWolves as they clinched a playoff spot midway through the season. He played in 76 games this season with the Tigers Double-A affiliate. Although the SeaWolves will miss his presence, Jace Jung will pick up where he left off. Pèrez was slashing. 271/.353./.375 with 17 extra-base hits, six Home Runs. There’s an opportunity for Pèrez to be a September call-up assuming the Tigers won’t be in contention.

Tigers promote INF Luke Gold to West Michigan Whitecaps.

Gold was a 2022 fifth-round pick by Detroit out of Boston College. He had a career batting average of .303 in college. Gold played in 19 games for the Lakeland Flying-Tigers last season. He posted a slash line of .200/.333/.200. This season, Gold was slashing .269/.367/.428 in West Michigan. He didn’t have any extra-base hits in 2022 but has 20 this season, including 6 Home Runs.
