The Texas Rangers are leading the World Series over the Arizona Diamondbacks after winning game one due to a walk-off from Adolis Garcia in the 11th inning. They lost game two 9-1; last night, they rebounded to take game three in Arizona 3-1. They are in the middle of game four tonight and have jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. Before tonight’s game, they received some tough news as they removed OF Adolis Garcia and RHP Max Scherzer from the roster; Garcia suffered an oblique injury in last night’s win, and Scherzer sustained a back injury also in last night’s game. Utility player Ezequiel Duran and RHP Brock Burke are replacing them on the roster.

Roster Moves By The Numbers

Adolis Garcia

This season, Garcia played in 148 and slashed .245/.328/.508 with a .836 OPS; he had 29 doubles, 39 home runs, 107 RBI, 108 runs scored, nine stolen bases, and 65 walks. He finished second in the American League in home runs and RBI. In the postseason, he caught fire and slashed .323/.382/.726 with a 1.108 OPS; he had one double, eight home runs, 22 RBI, 11 runs scored, two stolen bases, and three walks, he went off in the ALCS in the Rangers series win over the Houston Astros.

Max Scherzer

The Rangers acquired Scherzer at the trade deadline, and since joining them, he eight starts going 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA, a 3.41 FIP, a 0.95 WHIP, a 1.0 HR/9, a 3.0 BB/9, and a 10.6 K/9. He would suffer an injury, and his last regular season start came against the Toronto Blue Jays on September 12th. He returned for the ALCS against the Astros, and in three starts, he went 0-1, pitching 9.2 total innings and giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits; he walked five and struck out seven.

Ezequiel Duran

Duran played in 122 games this season and slashed .276/.324/.443 with a .768 OPS; he had 22 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 55 runs scored, eight stolen bases, and 23 walks. He is yet to appear in the 2023 postseason.

Brock Burke

This season, Burke made 53 appearances out of the bullpen, going 5-3 with a 4.37 ERA, a 4.90 FIP, a 1.22 WHIP, a 2.0 HR/9, a 1.4 BB/9, and a 7.8 K/9. He also pitched for Texas during the ALDS, making one appearance against the Baltimore Orioles, and he struggled going 0.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on one hit; he walked one and struck out none.
