Tampa Rays Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Tampa Bay Rays lost 3-2 against the Detriot Tigers yesterday in Grapefruit League action. The team has two spring games remaining, today against the Philadelphia Phillies and Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers again to wrap up the Spring schedule. The team will host the division rival Toronto Blue Jays on Opening Day at Tropicana Field.

OF – Jose Sanabria

Sanabria was assigned to the Rays roster today before the game against the Phillies. Sanabria last season played 19 games for the Rays Florida Complex League team. He had 60 at-bats, five runs scored, one double, three RBIs, nine walks, 21 strikeouts, one steal, and slashed .150/.271/.167 with a .438 WHIP on the year.

2B – Elis Barreat

Barreat was assigned to the Rays roster before today’s game against the Phillies. He played 14 games last year with the Ray Florida Complex League team with 34 at-bats, four runs scored, two RBIs, four walks, seven strikeouts, and slashed .206/.282/.206 with a .488 OPS on the year. He did play one game with the Double AA Montgomery Biscuits where he had one hit and one strikeout in that one game played.

RHP – Nelson L. Alvarez

Alvarez was assigned to the Rays roster this morning ahead of the game against the Phillies. Last year Alvarez pitched in 10 games for the Bowling Green Hot Rods and 34 games with Double-AA Montgomery Biscuits. With the Hot Rods, he ended with a 2-1 record over 15.2 innings with, two saves, 22 strikeouts, six walks, a 2.30 ERA, and a 1.15 WHIP at High A. With the Biscuits he went 5-4 with, 37 innings, 57 strikeouts, 16 walks, a 4.14 ERA, and a 1.19 WHIP on the year.

C – Yirer Garcia

Garcia was assigned to the Rays roster today before taking on the Phillies. Garcia played all of last year with the Dominican Summer League Rays. He played in 47 games with, 27 runs scored, two doubles, two triples, one home run, 14 RBIs, 28 walks, 21 strikeouts, five steals, and slashed .227/.360/.286 with a .646 OPS on the year.
