The St. Louis Cardinals made several significant roster adjustments on Wednesday as the team continues to fine-tune its depth for the long season ahead. These moves reflect a mix of injury rehab, strategic promotions, and difficult roster decisions.

Andre Granillo

To start, the Cardinals selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Andre Granillo from Triple-A Memphis. Granillo, a hard-throwing reliever with a sharp slider, has impressed in the minors with a 2.89 ERA and 35 strikeouts over 28 innings. His call-up brings fresh energy to a bullpen that has seen heavy usage in recent weeks.

Michael Siani

In addition to Granillo, the team recalled center fielder Michael Siani from Memphis. Siani brings speed, defensive range, and a solid left-handed bat to the outfield. His return to the big-league roster offers manager Oli Marmol another versatile option in center, especially with Lars Nootbaar still on the injured list.

Ryan Vilade

To make room for these additions, the Cardinals designated right fielder Ryan Vilade for assignment. Vilade struggled to gain traction in limited at-bats, hitting just .211 with minimal power. His removal from the 40-man roster opens a path for Granillo, and he now enters the waiver process.

Chris Roycroft

Meanwhile, St. Louis optioned right-handed pitcher Chris Roycroft back to Memphis. Roycroft showed potential in his brief major league stint but needs more seasoning at the Triple-A level. The demotion allows him to continue developing without the pressure of high-leverage big-league innings.

Jordan Walker

Lastly, the Cardinals sent right fielder Jordan Walker on a rehab assignment to Memphis, signaling progress in his recovery. Walker, who had been sidelined with a wrist injury, was one of the club’s top offensive contributors before landing on the injured list. His return could provide a much-needed boost to the Cardinals’ lineup in the near future.

Wrap Up

These roster moves come at a critical juncture. With the NL Central race tightening, every decision carries added weight. The Cardinals are clearly balancing the present with long-term goals, using Memphis as a hub for both development and recovery.

In conclusion, St. Louis continues to adjust and adapt. With Granillo and Siani now in the mix and Walker nearing a return, the Cardinals are preparing for a strong push as the season heats up.
