The St. Louis Cardinals are preparing for a three-game series at home against the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend. Game one kicks off tonight. Matthew Liberatore takes on Chad Patrick. The rest of the series details can be found here. The Cardinals have a 10-15 record and are 3-7 in their last 10. They are five and a half games back from the Cubs in the Central right now. Winning the series against the Brewers is a great opportunity. The Brewers sit in second place. This victory would be a great start as the Cardinals finish April and head into May. Before tonight’s game, the Cardinals optioned Ryan Fernandez, a relief pitcher, to Triple-A. In his place, they are calling up Riley O’Brien.

The Cardinals have optioned right-hand pitcher Ryan Fernandez today ahead of their game with the Brewers. Fernandez appeared in 11 games this year for the Cardinals. He pitched 8.2 innings allowing 15 hits, 13 runs, 11 earned runs, two home runs, five walks, and struck out seven. Fernandez lost two games and recorded two holds. He had an 11.42 ERA, a 2.31 WHIP, and a .375 batting average against.

Riley O’Brien

The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled right-hand pitcher Riley O’Brien from the Memphis Redbirds today. In seven games this year with Memphis in Triple-A, he has pitched in seven innings total. O’Brien has allowed five hits, four runs, three earned, one home run, three walks, and struck out 14. He has a 3.86 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, and a .192 batting average against. It will be interesting to see if his strikeout numbers stay high. He will get his chance in the big league in 2025.
