Kyle Harrison was born in San Jose, California, on August 12, 2001. He played high school baseball at De La Salle High School in Concord, CA. He was the first-ranked LHP and the fifth-ranked overall player in California.

Harrison dominated in high school starting in his sophomore year when he made 14 appearances, with 11 of those as starts, going 9-1 with a 1.17 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 54 innings. In his junior year, he made 13 appearances, going 10-0 with a 1.26 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 61 innings. In his Senior year, he made two appearances, going 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA and 18 strikeouts in nine innings. He combined to appear in 29 games, going 21-1 with a 1.19 ERA and 192 strikeouts in 124 innings. He also finished his high school career by hitting .270 with seven doubles, 23 RBI, and 14 runs scored.

Harrison was ranked the 2nd LHP in the country and as the 21st-ranked overall player. He committed to play college baseball at the University of California (UCLA).

When Was Kyle Harrison Drafted?

Harrison was drafted in the third round of the 2020 draft by the San Francisco Giants and signed with them forgoing his commitment to UCLA.

2021

Harrison played for Single-A San Jose in his first season, making 23 starts and going 4-3 with a 3.19 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, and 157 strikeouts in 98.2 innings.

2022

Harrison, in 2022, was ranked as the 95th prospect by Baseball America and 75th by MLB.com. He pitched at High-A Eugene and Double-A Richmond, making 25 starts, going 4-3 with a 2.71 ERA and 186 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched. He also pitched in the future’s game, going 0.2 innings, giving up four runs, one earned run on two hits; he walked one and struck out two.

Harrison ranked 38th by Baseball America and 18th by MLB.com entering 2023. He appeared at the Giants Rookie League and Triple-A Sacramento and made his big league debut with the Giants. He made 21 starts in the minors, going 1-3 with a 4.52 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 67.2 innings. He made seven starts with the Giants, going 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 34.2 innings. He was also expected to pitch at the future’s game but did not.

Future

ITD ranks Harrison as the 16th-ranked overall prospect in all of baseball entering 2024 and the Giants number-one prospect. He is expected to start the season with the Giants, so his time in the ranking may not last.
