Chase DeLauter was born in Frederick, Maryland on October 8, 2001. He played high school baseball at Hedgesville High School in Hedgesville, WV. He was the third-ranked outfielder and the ninth-ranked overall player in West Virginia. At Hedgesville, he hit .543 with 134 hits, 44 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 93 RBI, 103 runs scored, 61 walks, and 14 stolen bases. On the mound, he appeared in 39 games and went 14-3 with a 2.14 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 170 innings. DeLauter was ranked the 643rd outfielder in the country and the top 1,000 overall players. He committed to play college baseball at James Madison University.

In his second year, he played in 26 games and slashed .386/.508/.723 with a 1.231 OPS; he had 12 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 21 RBI, 26 runs scored, seven stolen bases, and 25 walks. That summer he played in the Cape Cod Baseball League for Orleans in 34 games he slashed .298/.397/.589 with a .986 OPS; he had seven doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 21 RBI, 27 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 21 walks. In his final season at James Madison, he played in 24 games and slashed .437/.576/.828 with a 1.404 OPS; he had eight doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 35 RBI, 31 runs scored, ten stolen bases, and 28 walks.

DeLauter was the 18th-ranked prospect entering the 2022 draft and the ninth-ranked college prospect. He would end up being drafted by the Cleveland Guardians with the 16th overall pick.

DeLauter’s first season saw him crank the rankings on MLB.com as he came in as the 82nd overall prospect. He played across three seasons with the Guardians rookie ball league then at High-A with Lake County and Double-A Akron. In 57 games he slashed .355/.417/.528 with a .945 OPS; he had 22 doubles, five home runs, 39 RBI, 35 runs scored, six stolen bases, and 23 walks. In the fall he played in the Arizona Fall League with Peoria playing in 23 games and he slashed .299/.385/.529 with a .914 OPS; he had five doubles, five home runs, 27 RBI, 19 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 14 walks.
