Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects Named to All-Star Team

The Pittsburgh Pirates season ended, and they have missed the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season. In 2023, the Pirates had some prospects make their major league debut, and, in the minors, they had three players get named to the All-Star team, which got announced by level over the past few weeks. RHP Quinn Priester was named an All-Star for Triple-A. In High-A 2B, Tsung-Che Cheng and DH Jase Bowen were named All-Stars.

2023 All-Stars By The Numbers

Quinn Priester

The Pirates drafted Priester in the first round of the 2019 Draft. This season, Priester pitched at Triple-A and for the Pirates. In Triple-A, he made 22 appearances, with 20 being starts, he finished 9-4 with a 4.00 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, a 0.5 HR/9, a 3.9 BB/9, and a 9.7 K/9. He appeared in ten games with the Pirates, making eight starts, going 3-3 with a 7.74 ERA, a 6.74 FIP, a 1.70 WHIP, a 2.2 HR/9, a 4.9 BB/9, and a 6.5 K/9.

Tsung-Che Cheng

Cheng was signed by the Pirates in 2019. Cheng played in High-A and Double-A across both levels, played in 123 games, and slashed .278/.353/.456 with a .808 OPS; he had 23 doubles, ten triples, 13 home runs, 56 RBI, 80 runs scored, 26 stolen bases, and 52 walks. In High-A, where he was named in All-Star, he played in 57 games, slashing .308/.406/.575 with a .980 OPS; he had 12 doubles, nine triples, nine home runs, 31 RBI, 45 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 35 walks.

Jase Bowen

The Pirates drafted Bowen in the 11th round of the 2019 Draft. He spent time at High-A and Double-A this season and combined to appear in 118 games and slashed .255/.327/.467 with a .794 OPS; he had 18 doubles, six triples, 23 home runs, 95 RBI, 86 runs scored, 26 stolen bases, and 36 walks. In High-A, he appeared in 110 games and slashed .258/.333/.469 with a .802 OPS; he had 15 doubles, four triples, 23 home runs, 88 RBI, 80 runs scored, 24 stolen bases, and 35 walks.
