Picks of the Day, 5/12

Corbin Burnes needs to beat the Royals to win one leg of a parlay. USA Today Sports

MLB is drunk this year. The White Sox, Mets, Cardinals, Yankees, and Phillies were all locks to be in the playoffs…and all suck. The Red Sox and Pirates are playing way over expectations. For that matter, so are the Rays. Even teams that looked bad on paper are playing with some pluck, like the Tigers, Reds, and Nationals.
The weird start to the season makes it really hard to gamble. The fact that I’m making money so far is a miracle.
1-2 yesterday, Wander Franco hit for me, but the White Sox couldn’t beat Brady Singer, who has been one of the worst pitchers n baseball, and Alonso couldn’t muster a hit against a Reds bullpen day. Gross. Alonso is absolutely the most overrated player in MLB today.
62-54 on the season. Happy Strider Day to those who celebrate:
Pick #1
Spencer Strider Over 8.5 strikeouts, -105 @ Blue Jays
You could make its 15.5 and I’d pick the over at this point. Strider is nasty. The Blue Jays have the 10th best Ks/9 in the league but in the last week, they have jumped from 8 per game to over 10.
Pick #2
Michael Kopech Over 4.5 Ks, -130 vs. Astros
Kopech probably loses today, but he usually gets his strikeouts even when he stinks.
Pick #3
MacKenzie Gore records over 17.5 outs, +100
As previously stated, the Mets suck. Gore looks like a nice pickup from the Soto trade. Nats let him cook today.
Reach
Parlay: Astros, Brewers, and Rangers Moneylines, +271
