San Diego Padres Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The San Diego Padres will take on the Chicago Cubs today in Cactus League play. Before the game, the team announced that they selected the contract of Gavin Sheets. He has had a stellar spring for the Padres. The other was just a formality with an Injured list designation unfortunately for starting Pitcher Joe Musgrove.

Gavin Sheets

The San Diego Padres have selected the contract from the El Paso Chihuahuas. They have added Sheets to the 40-man roster. Sheets originally signed a minor league contract this winter with the Padres with an invite to spring training. This spring sheets saw 48 at-bats with 15 hits, nine runs scored, six home runs, and 12 RBIs. Sheets has a .313 batting average so far this spring. Last year Sheets played in 139 games with the Chicago White Sox. He hit 24 doubles, ten home runs, and had 45 RBIs. For the White Sox he finished with a .233 batting average and a slash line of .303/.357/.666 last year.

Joe Musgrove

The Padres officially moved Musgrove to the 60-day injured list today. He had Tommy John surgery at the end of last season. He will miss the entire 2025 season. However, he has been around training camp helping the younger guys. He was even on the bench for the Spring breakout game for the Padres. Joe Musgrove made 19 starts last season for the Padres last season. He won six games and lost five of them. Musgrove finished the year with a 3.88 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 101 strikeouts over 99.2 innings of work.
