Nolan Arenado Scratched Tonight vs. Pirates

The St. Louis Cardinals will begin a three game series tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 4-5 Cardinals are coming off a tough weekend. The Cardinals were swept by the Boston Red Sox including losing both games of a doubleheader yesterday. Matthew Liberatore gets the ball for the Cardinals. Liberatore is facing Carmen Mlodzinski for the Pirates. The Cardinals have scratched third baseman Nolan Arenado from the lineup tonight as he is dealing with an illness as well as general soreness. Thomas Saggese will start at third base now.

Nolan Arenado 

Arenado is in his 13th big league season having played in 1,689 games. He’s a career .285 hitter with a .858 OPS. He has 390 doubles, 33 triples, 342 home runs, 1,138 RBI, 950 runs scored, 28 stolen bases, and 555 walks. Arenado is in his fifth season with the Cardinals having played in 610 games hitting .272 with an .800 OPS. He has 128 doubles, six triples, 107 home runs, 378 RBI, 301 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, and 362 walks. This season through nine games he’s hitting .343 with a .953 OPS. He has three doubles, a home run, six RBI, six runs scored, and six walks. Hopefully things subside soon and Arenado returns to the St. Louis lineup.
