The Cincinnati Reds suffer another pitching issue in today’s game with the Cleveland Guardians. With Hunter Greene already sidelined until halfway through the year, and Andrew Abbott struggling all spring long. The Reds saw left-hand pitcher Nick Lodolo leave his last spring training start early without recording an out. Opening day is Thursday with the Boston Red Sox coming to town. The Reds had already announced a six-man rotation, but now another concern for the starting rotation.

Nick Lodolo
Lodolo, in his last spring start of the year for the Cincinnati Reds, left the game without recording an out. He gave up a two-run home run to Angel Martinez after walking Steven Kwan in the first. Lodolo left in the first with a blister on his left index finger. Which hopefully can be addressed before his turn in the rotation. Lodolo has made five starts this spring with a 1-1 record and a 7.24 ERA. He has 18 strikeouts and a 1.61 WHIP in 13.2 innings this spring. Lodolo made 28 starts in 2025, going 9-8 with a 3.33 ERA. He pitched in 156.2 innings with 156 strikeouts and a 1.08 WHIP.
Summary
This is not the time to see another pitcher leave a game early. While a blister isn’t serious, it can linger and return. Hunter Greene is already out. Andrew Abbott is searching for his old form. As a result, the Reds’ starting pitching suddenly seems to be a concern. The Reds have a tough series to open with the Boston Red Sox. Let’s hope this blister can be handled. It would be great to put it in the past once the regular season starts.
