New York Yankees Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

After a tumultuous 82-80 season that saw the Yankees finishing fourth in the AL East standings, Yankee fans have been waiting patiently for the hammer to drop on players who are not in the plans for the 2024 season.

On Nov. 2, 2024, the Yankees placed six players on outright waivers, as reported by Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The players listed are eligible to either be claimed or elect free agency.

Roster Moves By The Numbers

Domingo Germán

German has spent all six of his big league seasons with the Yankees, making 112 appearances, with 89 being starts. He went 31-28 and had a 4.41 ERA, a 4.50 FIP, a 1.17 WHIP, a 1.6 HR/9, a 2.8 BB/9, and a 9.4 K/9. This season, German appeared in 20 games, making 19 starts, going 5-7 with a 4.56 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 108.2 innings of work. He also threw the 24th Perfect Game in history against Oakland on June 28, 2023. His season was cut short when he was voluntarily submitted to inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse on August 2, 2023.

Jimmy Cordero

Cordero’s only season with the Yankees was 2023, and he appeared in 31 games, making one start; he went 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA, a 3.07 FIP, a 1.07 WHIP, a 0.6 HR/9, a 2.8 BB/9, and a 9.4 K/9 over 32 2/3 IP. His season also ended early when he was suspended for the remainder of the season in early July by MLB after violating the domestic violence policy.

Ryan Weber

Weber spent 2022 and 2023 with the Yankees. In 2023, he appeared in only eight games, going 1-0 with a 3.14 ERA, a 4.51 FIP, 1.25 WHIP, a 1.3 HR/9, a 0.6 BB/9, and a 4.4 K/9 in 14.1 innings of work.

Billy McKinney:

McKinney, in 2023, had a slash line of .227/.320/.406 and a .726 OPS in 147 plate appearances; he had three doubles, one triple, six home runs, 14 RBI, 19 runs scored, one stolen base, and 17 walks.

Franchy Cordero

Cordero was claimed off waivers by the Yankees from the Red Sox, and with the Yankees, he slashed .188/.211/.478 with a .690 OPS in 71 plate appearances; he had two doubles, six home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs scored, and two walks.

Matt Bowman

Bowman only made three appearances in 2023, and he went 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA, a 6.51 FIP, a 2.00 WHIP, a 2.3 HR/9, a 4.5 BB/9, and a 6.8 K/9 in four innings of work.
