Francisco Alvarez Returns; Senger Optioned

Alvarez played in 35 games with the Mets this season, hitting .236 with a .652 OPS. He had three doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI, ten runs scored, and 13 walks. Francisco Alvarez played in 29 games in the minors this season, hitting .255 with a .975 OPS. He had three doubles, 12 home runs, 27 RBI, 21 runs scored, and 13 walks.

Senger in 21 games with the Mets hit .174 with a .404 OPS. He had a double, five runs scored, and two walks. In 27 games at Syracuse, he hit .240 with a .609 OPS. He had two doubles, two home runs, ten RBI, 16 runs scored, a stolen base, and five walks.

Rico Garcia Joins from Yankees via Waivers

In a notable bullpen addition, the Mets claimed right-handed reliever Rico Garcia off waivers from the New York Yankees. Garcia, who has bounced between organizations this season, brings a mid-90s fastball and solid strikeout potential. While his numbers at the big-league level have varied, he remains a depth option with upside. In two games for the Mets, he didn’t allow a run on a hit. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out three in 4.2 innings. In his lone game for the Yankees, he allowed three runs on three hits. he walked two and struck out two in 2.2 innings.

Lovelady Outrighted, Núñez Transferred to 60-Day IL

The Mets also made two moves to adjust their pitching depth. They sent left-hander Richard Lovelady outright to Syracuse, removing him from the 40-man roster. Lovelady has dealt with injuries and inconsistent results, and the club likely hopes he regains form in Triple-A.

Meanwhile, right-hander Dedniel Núñez shifted from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL due to a right elbow sprain. Núñez had shown flashes of promise earlier this year, but this setback extends his absence and creates long-term concerns regarding his availability.

Mets Prioritize Health and Depth

With these moves, the Mets continue to reshape their roster to stay competitive. The return of Francisco Alvarez addresses a major need behind the plate, while Garcia adds another bullpen arm to a unit that has faced pressure all season.
