New York Mets Roster Moves 5/29

New York Mets Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Mets enter play today ahead of their 4:10 PM game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 22-32 record and 15 games back in the National League East. They will be trying to avoid a three-game sweep today when they face the Dodgers in the series finale. They will host the Arizona Diamondbacks for a four-game series starting tomorrow evening. Before today’s series finale with the Dodgers, the Mets have announced four roster moves.

LHP – David Peterson

The Mets have activated Peterson from the 60-day injured list ahead of today’s game. Peterson has been working his way back from a torn labrum in his left hip rehabbing in three levels in the Minors for the Mets. Combined with his rehab assignments he has pitched in six games starting all six of them. He has pitched 23.2 innings of work allowing 19 hits, three earned runs, three walks, 35 strikeouts, and a 1.14 ERA. He has two wins and one loss so far with a 0.93 WHIP.

LHP – Julian Smith

The Mets have signed Smith to a Minor League Contract today. Smith pitched last for the Tri-City Dust Devils in the Arizona Complex league for the Los Angeles Angels. He has been assigned to the Brooklyn Cyclones. Last year with Tri-City in the Northwest League High-A he appeared in six games with one win in 13.2 innings of work. He had a 1.32 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP.

LHP – Josh Walker

The Mets have optioned Walker back to Triple-A to pitch for the Syracuse Mets. Walker has pitched in eight games for the Mets this year without factoring into a decision. He has worked 8.2 innings allowing six hits, two earned runs, three walks, and seven strikeouts. He has a 2.08 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.

RHP – Dedniel Nunez

The Mets have optioned Nunez back to Triple-A to pitch for the Syracuse Mets. He has appeared in five games for the Mets so far this year without earning a win or taking a loss. He has pitched in 8.1 innings allowing seven hits, three earned runs, three walks, and struck out 13. He has a 3.24 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP on the year.

Wrap Up:

The Mets are currently without Kodi Senga and Edwin Diaz has fallen off and struggled this year. The Mets had a tough road to climb regardless in the National League East with the Phillies and Braves, but I think we all thought they could do better than they have with the talent on the roster. Fourth place in the East is not where we expected them and hopefully, with the return of Peterson, the team can find some sort of balance within its pitching staff.
