The New York Mets won 5-1 over the Minnesota Twins to kick off their three-game series. Today, the Mets will have Tylor Megill on the bump, facing off against Bailey Ober for the Twins. The Mets are sitting at 11-5 and lead the National League East, and they may be getting a boost soon. Today, they announced they are sending catcher Francisco Alvarez on a rehab assignment. The Mets have been using Luis Torrens and Hayden Senger as their catchers to start the season. Alvarez has been out while he is recovering from a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. The injury occurred during batting practice during Spring Training and required surgery.

Alvarez, over three seasons with the Mets, has played in 228 games, hitting .221 with a .717 OPS. He had 51 doubles, a triple, 61 home runs, 181 RBI, 180 runs scored, ten stolen bases, and 154 walks. He was the third-ranked prospect by MLB entering the 2023 season. Last season in 100 games, he hit .237 with a .710 OPS. He had 14 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 47 RBI, 39 runs scored, a stolen base, and 30 walks. In the postseason, he played in 13 games, hitting .256, he had a double, three RBI, four runs scored, and two walks.
