The Minnesota Twins will wrap up their series against the Atlanta Braves tonight and they are looking to avoid being swept as they dropped the first game 10-6 and last night’s game 8-6. The Twins in their last ten are 3-7 and have been outscored 51-50. With this currently skid the Twins now hold a four-game lead for the final Wild Card spot. Following tonight’s game the Twins will take on the Toronto Blue Jays who as of today have won seven of their last ten and just had a four-game winning streak snapped, it’s actually five games but the first game of Monday’s doubleheader reflects the date it was started on June 26th. Ahead of tonight’s finale the Twins activated RHP Michael Tonkin and optioned RHP Caleb Boushley to Triple-A St. Paul.
Twins Roster Moves By The Numbers
RHP – Michael Tonkin
Tonkin was originally drafted by the Twins in the 30th round of the 2008 MLB Draft and made 141 appearances with them going 3-3 with a 4.43 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, and 149 strikeouts in 146.1 innings. He started this season with the Twins appearing in one game giving up two runs on two hits in two innings; he walked two and struck out five. He was then claimed off waivers by the New York Mets where he pitched in five games going 1-2 with a 5.14 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, a 2.6 BB/9, and a 7.7 K/9 in seven innings. He was then claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees where he made 39 appearances going 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, a 3.4 BB/9, and a 9.2 K/9 in 56 innings. The Twins have now claimed him back off waivers from the Yankees and he is active tonight.
RHP – Caleb Boushley
Boushley appeared in two games for the Twins this season going four innings posting a 4.50 ERA, a 2.00 WHIP, a 4.5 BB/9, and a 2.3 K/9. In Triple-A he made 22 starts going 9-5 with a 4.97 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, a 1.6 BB/9, and a 7.3 K/9 in 116 innings.
