The Minnesota Twins are off to a 7-12 start. They are four games back in the AL Central behind the Detroit Tigers. They are heading out on a six game road trip after taking two of three from the Mets. The Twins are calling up their third ranked prospect ahead of their series with the Atlanta Braves. Kesschall is the Twins third ranked prospect. He will join the team as they prepare for three games in Atlanta. After that, they will head to Chicago to play the White Sox for three.

Luke Keaschall

The Twins have promoted Luke Keaschall from Triple-A. He will be making his Major League debut during the Braves series. Keaschall has had 46 at-bats this season in Triple-A. He has eight runs, 12 hits, one home run, five RBI, and four steals. Keaschall has a .261 batting average with a .727 OPS. Keaschall has a career .297 batting average in the minors over 436 at-bats. He has 117 runs scored, 159 hits, 19 home runs, 68 RBI, and 38 steals.

Matt Canterino

In corresponding move the Twins have designated Matt Canterino for assignment. He hasn’t played this season at all and is in the injured list.

Summary

The Twins are off to a slow start offensively this year. Minnesota ranks 24th in runs, home runs, and RBI. They rank 27th in walks, 15th in strikeouts, 25th in steals and average, and 26th in OPS this year. They haven’t been much better in the field with 5th most errors this year. In his minor league career, Keaschall has played first base, second base, third, and some Center field. The majority of those starts have come at second base, where he holds a career with a .975 fielding percentage in the minors. Through seven games this year he has been perfect in the field for the St. Paul Saints. The Twins are doing everything possible to stay close in the division. They face challenges early on with injuries. Calling up Keaschall is just another attempt to keep the race tight in a very competitive division this year.
