Miami Marlins Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Miami Marlins today took on the Washington Nationals in Grapefruit League play and won 5-3. Tomorrow they will take on the New York Mets, and they are sending Darren McCaughan to the mound to make his fourth appearance of the spring and it will be his second start. He is 0-0 with an 8.44 ERA, a 2.06 WHIP, and five strikeouts in 5.1 innings. 

  • RHP Max Meyer Made The Opening Day Roster
  • RHP Mychal Givens reassigned to Minor League camp
  • 1B Trey Mancini didn’t make the roster and has been released
  • C Curt Casali is not making the roster and will mull his options

Marlins Roster Moves By The Numbers 

RHP – Max Meyer

Meyer this spring has made three appearances going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.71 WHIP, and five strikeouts in seven innings. Last season in six innings he went 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and six strikeouts. 

RHP – Mychal Givens

Givens appeared in two games this spring going 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA, a 2.00 WHIP, and three strikeouts in two innings. Last season with Baltimore he appeared in six games going 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA, a 2.50 ERA, and two strikeouts in four innings. 

1B – Trey Mancini 

Mancini this spring in 15 games hit .257 and a .704 OPS; he had a double, a home run, two RBI, two runs scored, and four walks. Last season with the Chicago Cubs he hit .234 with a .635 OPS; he had 12 doubles, four home runs, 28 RBI, and 31 runs scored in 79 games. 

C – Curt Casali

Casali in nine games this spring hit .059 with a .276 OPS; he had a double, an RBI, and two walks. Last season with the Cincinnati Reds he played in 40 games he hit .175 with a .490 OPS; he had two doubles, six RBI, eight runs scored, and 11 walks. 

Wrap Up

The Marlins Opening Day rotation will be Jesus Luzardo, A.J. Puk, Ryan Weathers, Trevor Rogers, and Max Meyer until Edward Cabrera, Eury Perez, and Braxton Garrett all return from their injuries.
