Kansas City Royals Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Kansas City Royals made two roster changes on Friday as they look to bolster their bullpen depth. They activated left-handed pitcher Sam Long from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-hander Jonathan Bowlan to the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers.

Sam Long Returns to Strengthen Bullpen

Sam Long rejoins the active roster after recovering from a stint on the injured list. Before the injury, Long provided reliable innings out of the bullpen, showcasing his ability to limit damage in high-leverage situations. His return gives manager Matt Quatraro a much-needed left-handed option, especially in late-inning matchups.

Additionally, Long offers versatility. He can pitch multiple innings when needed and handle lefty-heavy lineups. If he finds his groove quickly, he could become a key contributor during the second half of the season.

Jonathan Bowlan Heads Back to Triple-A

To make room for Long, the Royals optioned Jonathan Bowlan to Triple-A Omaha. Although Bowlan flashed potential during his brief time with the big-league club, he struggled with consistency. His command wavered at times, leading the Royals to send him back down for further development.

Bowlan will now have the chance to refine his mechanics and sharpen his pitch sequencing in a lower-pressure environment. The organization still views him as a promising arm, and with continued progress, he could return to the majors later this season.

Royals Focus on Depth in Competitive Division

As the Royals battle for position in a tightly packed AL Central, every roster decision becomes critical. By activating Long, the team adds a trusted arm to its bullpen at a time when stability matters most. Meanwhile, Bowlan’s demotion emphasizes the club’s commitment to performance and development.

Looking ahead, Kansas City will likely continue to evaluate its pitching depth based on matchup needs and player health. With Long back in the mix, the Royals aim to maintain momentum heading into a pivotal stretch of the season.
