Kansas City Royals Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Kansas City Royals are currently 8-13 on the year. They have lost the first two games of the four game series with the AL Central leading Detroit Tigers. The Royals have now dropped eight out of their last ten games. They will look to turn things around this afternoon when they take on the Tigers on the MLB Network. They head back home after this series. The Royals will play three games with the Rockies and the Astros. Then they will head back out on the road. Before today’s game, the Royals announced they were activating Mark Canha off the 10-day injured list. They are also sending MJ Melendez to Triple-A.

Mark Canha

The Royals have activated Canha from the 10 day injured list. Canha, played in the seven games he has played this year has a .357 batting average and a .971 OPS. He has two doubles and two walks on the year. He played in three games during his rehab stint in Triple-A. Canha had three runs, two hits, three walks, and a .200 batting average for Omaha.

MJ Melendez

The Kansas City Royals have optioned Melendez to the Omaha Storm Chasers in Triple-A. Melendez has been horrible offensively this year. In 16 games he has four runs scored, four hits, one double, one home run, one RBI, and three walks. Melendez has struck out 20 times to start the year. He has a .085 batting average and a .343 OPS.

Summary

The Royals need production from the outfield spot taken up by Melendez. They hope that Mark Canha can be that support in the short term. The Royals have given Melendez plenty of time to try and figure things out. Unfortunately, he’s worse offensively than he was last year. The team hopes some time in Triple-A will help him fix his approach. They expect him to return as an offensive contributor later this season.

  1. Honestly, they need to fire their hitting coach. That is a lot of the problem with the Royals offense.
