The Texas Rangers announced ahead of Game Two against the Seattle Mariners that veteran catcher Jonah Heim would be placed on the paternity list. Jonah Heim and his wife Kenzie shared the exciting news on May 15th that they were expecting their third child, whom they have fittingly named Champ. Rangers beat writer Evan Grant announced via X, formerly Twitter, at approximately 4:00 PM CT that baby Champ had arrived.
Jonah and Kenzie tied the knot in October 2020, and they joyously welcomed their adorable son, Nash, to the world in January 2021. Not long after, in April 2022, their lovely daughter, Luxx, came into their lives. It was a heartwarming sight to see Kenzie, Nash, and Luxx all there to cheer on Heim after his team secured their first World Series victory on November 1st, 2023.
Champ’s birth comes on the heels of Lou Gehrig Day, which holds immense personal significance for the Heim family. A mere two months before his arrival, Kenzie’s mother succumbed to ALS after battling the disease for an extended period. Lou Gehrig, a legendary figure in baseball, also endured and ultimately succumbed to ALS. Major League Baseball initiated Lou Gehrig Day to heighten awareness and provide aid to organizations that support those impacted by this debilitating disorder. Though Champ will never have the opportunity to personally know his grandmother, the concerted efforts of family, acquaintances, and the entire Rangers organization will preserve her legacy for him.
The talented team of writers at Inside the Diamonds extends their warmest congratulations to the Heim family and the Rangers on the delightful news of the newest addition to the Rangers family. We are overjoyed and eagerly anticipate the prospect of witnessing young Champ’s future exploits on the field as he continues the proud legacy of his father.
