
The Detroit Tigers completed a series sweep of the Miami Marlins today. Kevin McGonigle collected three hits in four at-bats, as the Tigers defeated the Marlins 8-2 this afternoon. McGonigle hit a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the eighth inning. A home run to left field by Dillon Dingler on an 0-2 count opened the scoring for the Tigers in the bottom of the first.
The Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to center field by McGonigle. It was McGonigle’s first career big league home run. The Tigers added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on five hits. Kerry Carpenter hit a two-run home run, and Javier Báez singled, bringing home a run. The Marlins scored one run in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by Otto Lopez.

Pitching
Tarik Skubal earned the win for the Tigers. The lefty allowed two hits and one run over six and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking two. Sandy Alcantara took the loss for the Marlins. The pitcher went six innings, surrendering seven runs on ten hits, striking out four, and walking two. Kyle Finnegan tossed one and one-third innings of shutout ball for the Tigers in relief. The pitcher surrendered two hits, striking out none and walking none.
Offense
The Tigers had 12 hits in the game. Dillon Dingler drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Detroit Tigers with three RBI. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Riley Greene collected two hits for the Detroit Tigers in three at-bats. Lopez provided a pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Miami Marlins with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Austin Slater set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the Marlins with two hits in three at-bats.
