Game Recap: Early; Homers Lead Red Sox to Shutout Win Over Rays

The Boston Red Sox took game two of their four-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 tonight.

The Red Sox pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Connelly Early, Garrett Whitlock, and Aroldis Chapman each pitched for Boston in the game. The Red Sox pitchers combine to strike out 12.

Boston got on the board in the third inning after Wilyer Abreu hit a solo home run. They added another run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Ceddanne Rafaela.

Early earned the win for the Red Sox. The lefty gave up four hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Jesse Scholtens took the loss for Tampa Bay. He went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering two runs on two hits, striking out four, and walking four. Chapman collected the save. Whitlock tossed one inning of shutout ball for Boston in relief. The righty gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking none.

Rafaela led the Boston Red Sox with two hits in four at-bats. He was the only hitter in the lineup to collect multiple hits. He hit a home run to secure the win.
