The MLB Top 100 Prospects list for August has been released, and the Red Sox feature four players on the list, all of which are position players, with SS Marcelo Mayer coming in at 11th, OF Roman Anthony is 37th, OF/SS Ceddanne Rafaela is ranked 78th, and newly drafted Catcher Kyle Teel is 88th. 2B Nick Yorke and OF Miguel Bleis are removed from the list after being ranked 86th and 87th in July.
Red Sox Prospects By The Numbers
SS – Marcelo Mayer
Mayer has been playing with the Red Sox Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs, and from July, he dropped from the top five to out of the top ten entering August due to a rough stretch. With Portland, he has played in 43 games and is slashing .189/.254/.355 for a .609 OPS; he has eight doubles, one triple, six home runs, 20 RBI, 20 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 15 walks. He started the 2023 season with the Red Sox High A affiliate, the Greenville Drive.
OF – Roman Anthony
Anthony makes a big jump from July to August, going from 100th to 37th. Anthony has been playing. With the Red Sox High-A affiliate, the Greenville Drive, playing in 36 games and slashing .284/.422/.627 with a 1.049 OPS, he has nine doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 25 RBI, 30 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 32 walks.
OF/SS – Ceddanne Rafaela
Rafaela moved up four spots from July which is surprising after the recent hot stretch he has been on. This season with Triple-A Worcester, he has played in 35 games and is slashing .317/.363/.662 with a 1.025 OPS; he has ten doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 33 RBI, 26 runs scored, four stolen bases, and seven walks. He has hit six home runs in his last ten games.
C – Kyle Teel
Teel was drafted 14th overall by the Red Sox out of the University of Virginia. For the Cavalier this season, he played in 65 games and slashed .407/.475/.655 with a 1.130 OPS; he had 25 doubles, 13 home runs, 69 RBI, 67 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 32 walks. Since joining the Red Sox system, he has played in five games; he started with their rookie ball team but, after three games, immediately jumped to High-A Greenville, and in two games there, he is slashing .600/.636/.700 with a 1.336 OPS; he has one double, five RBI, three runs scored, and one walk.
