The Boston Red Sox Double-A affiliate the Portland Sea Dogs wrapped up their regular season and failed to make the playoffs, the playoff format is typically whoever finishes in first through the first half clinches a spot then the best record in the second half clinches the other spot unless it’s the same team from the first half then the team in second clinches the spot, the Sea Dogs despite having the best record in the Eastern League Northeast division couldn’t get the job done as they finished the regular season 78-60. In the first half, they finished 36-33 which was 2.5 games back of first place, and then in the second half, they finished 42-27 and 1.5 games back of first place. The one takeaway was they had four prospects named to the Eastern League All-Star team Marcelo Mayer was named 2024 All-Star at shortstop, Roman Anthony was named an outfield All-Star, catcher/designated hitter Kyle Teel was named All-Star for designated hitter, and utility Kristian Campbell was named an All-Star; Campbell was also named Most Valuable Player for the Eastern League in 2024. All four prospects are ranked in the Top 100 by ITD Anthony is ranked third, Mayer is ranked sixth, Teel is ranked 24th, and Campbell is ranked 51st.
Marcelo Mayer
Mayer this season at Portland played in 77 games posting a slash line of .307/.362/.465 with a .827 OPS; he had 28 doubles, eight home runs, 38 RBI, 60 runs scored, 30 walks, and 13 stolen bases. He finished fourth in the league in doubles and tied for 18th in runs scored.
Roman Anthony
Anthony played in 84 games at Double-A with a slash line of .269/.367/.489 with a .856 OPS; he had 20 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs, 45 RBI, 60 runs scored, 48 walks, and 16 stolen bases. He finished 14th in batting average, first in OPS, 13th in home runs, and tied for 18th in runs scored,
Kyle Teel
Teel played in 84 games with Portland posting a slash line of .298/.390/.462 with a .852 OPS; he had 20 doubles, 11 home runs, 60 RBI, 65 runs scored, 48 walks, and nine stolen bases. He finished first in the league in batting average, third in OPS, ninth in RBI, and seventh in runs scored.
Kristian Campbell
Campbell rose through the ranks and didn’t stay long in Portland only playing in 56 games he had a slash line of .362/.463/.582 with a 1.045 OPS; he had 17 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 35 RBI, 48 runs scored, 35 walks, and 17 stolen bases. He would have finished first in average, first in OPS, and 21st in stolen bases despite playing in less than half of the games than anyone else.
