Draft Player Profile: Jac Caglianone

Jac Caglianone was born in Tampa, Florida on February 9, 2003. He played high school baseball at H.B. Plant High School in Tampa, FL. He was the top-ranked LHP and the sixth overall player in Florida in 2021. In his senior season, he hit .371 with three home runs, and on the mound, he posted a 2.44 ERA, with 65 strikeouts and two saves over 37.1 innings. He underwent Tommy John surgery after tearing his left ulnar collateral ligament in an All-Star game following the season. Caglianone was the fourth-ranked LHP nationally and the 33rd overall player in the country. He was committed to playing college baseball at the University of Florida.

Caglianone in his first season at Florida didn’t pitch but at the plate, he hit .289 with a .887 OPS; he had six doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBI, and 19 runs scored. In 2023 he returned to the mound making 18 starts and going 7-4 with a 4.34 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts in 74.2 innings, at the plate he hit .389 with a 1.126 OPS; he had 14 doubles, two triples, 33 home runs, 90 RBI, and 74 runs scored. This season on the mound he’s made 13 starts going 5-1 with a 4.35 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts in 62 innings, at the plate, he hit .415 with a 1.369 OPS; he had four doubles, 29 home runs, 58 RBI, and 67 runs scored.  He is currently tied for seventh in batting average, and he’s fourth in home runs. Entering play today his college career stat line he is hitting .350 with a 1.174 OPS; 24 doubles, two triples, 69 home runs, 175 RBI, and 160 runs scored. On the mound in his career, he has made 31 starts going 12-65 with a 4.35 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and 155 strikeouts in 136.2 innings.

Scouting Report

Caglianone is 6-5 weighing 250 lbs. He is the third-ranked prospect by ITD entering the draft and the top-ranked pitcher. ITD currently has him going to the Cincinnati Reds at the second pick.
