Draft Player Profile: Jac Caglianone

Jac Caglianone was born in Tampa, Florida on February 9, 2003. He played high school baseball at H.B. Plant High School in Tampa, FL. He was the top-ranked LHP and the sixth overall player in Florida in 2021. In his senior season, he hit .371 with three home runs, and on the mound, he posted a 2.44 ERA, with 65 strikeouts and two saves over 37.1 innings. He underwent Tommy John surgery after tearing his left ulnar collateral ligament in an All-Star game following the season. Caglianone was the fourth-ranked LHP nationally and the 33rd overall player in the country. He was committed to playing college baseball at the University of Florida.

Caglianone in his first season at Florida didn’t pitch but at the plate, he hit .289 with a .887 OPS. He had six doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBI, and 19 runs scored. In 2023 he returned to the mound making 18 starts and going 7-4 with a 4.34 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts in 74.2 innings. At the plate he hit .389 with a 1.126 OPS; he had 14 doubles, two triples, 33 home runs, 90 RBI, and 74 runs scored.

In 2024 on the mound he made 16 starts going 5-2 with a 4.76 ERA, a 1.52 WHIP, and 83 strikeouts in 73.2 innings. At the plate, he hit .419 with a 1.419 OPS. He had eight doubles, 35 home runs, 72 RBI, and 83 runs scored.  In his college career, he hit .355 with a 1.207 OPS. Caglianone had 28 doubles, two triples, 75 home runs, 189 RBI, and 176 runs scored. On the mound in his career, he has made 34 starts going 12-6 with a 4.55 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, and 170 strikeouts in 148.1 innings.

Caglianone was the third-ranked prospect entering the 2024 Draft. The Kansas City Royals drafted him sixth overall.

Caglianone would start his professional career at High-A Quad Cities. He would play in 29 games hitting .241 with a .690 OPS. Caglianone had nine doubles, a triple, two home runs, 14 RBI, and 13 runs scored.

2025

Caglianone ranked as the 63rd overall prospect by Baseball America and the 22nd by MLB Pipeline. He will be playing at Double-A with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals
