The Detroit Tigers last night picked up their sixth straight win with a 3-2 win behind a Spencer Torkelson two-run home run, Kerry Carpenter also drove in a run on an RBI single. Mason Englert got the spot start going two shutout innings allowing just one hit on 33 pitches; he walked one and struck out two. Kenta Maeda got a bulk of the work going 4.1 innings giving up two unearned runs on four hits; he walked two and struck out five. Jason Foley picked up his 19th save of the season with a 13-pitch ninth inning that saw him record two punch outs. The Tigers are working their way back into the playoff race as they currently sit 4.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot heading into play today. The Tigers ahead of today’s matinee have made a roster move as last night’s starter Mason Englert has been optioned back to Triple-A so the club could activate reliever Will Vest from the paternity list.

RHP – Will Vest

Vest is in his third season with the Tigers having made 164 appearances with six of those coming as starts he is 8-8 with four saves, a 3.44 ERA, a 3.04 FIP, a 1.24 WHIP, a 2.8 BB/9, and a 9.1 K/9 in 167.2 innings. This season in 57 appearances he is 3-4 with a 3.20 ERA, one save, a 2.89 FIP, a 1.26 WHIP, a 2.7 BB/9, and an 8.1 K/9 in 56.1 innings.

RHP – Mason Englert

Englert has made 12 appearances with the Tigers this season going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA, a 4.93 FIP, a 1.29 WHIP, a 2.1 BB/9, and a 6.6 K/9 in 21.2 innings. This season he’s pitched across three levels, pitching for High-A West Michigan, Single-A Lakeland, and Triple-A Toledo making 25 appearances with three of those coming as starts he is 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, a 3.9 BB/9, and an 11.8 K/9 in 36.2 innings. At Toledo, he’s appeared in 21 games going 3-0 with a 2.51 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, a 3.8 BB/9, and a 12.9 K/9 in 28.2 innings.
