The Detroit Tigers are about to start a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays as they are coming off being swept by the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers were a favorite to win the American League Central this season and haven’t gotten off to the best start as they currently sit in fourth place in the division currently 9.5 games back entering play today. With all this, they have decided to option RHP Alex Lange to Triple-A Toledo and have recalled RHP Mason Englert from Triple-A Toledo.
RHP – Alex Lange
Lange was drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the 30th pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. He was acquired by the Tigers in July of 2019 for Nick Castellanos. He made his big league debut with Detroit in 2021 going one inning, he didn’t allow a run, a hit, or a walk and struck out one. In 2023 he was the Tigers closer recording 26 saves, he would appear in 67 games going 7-5 with a 3.68 ERA, a 4.36 FIP, a 1.33 WHIP, and 79 strikeouts in 66 innings. Entering 2024 he was in a battle for the closer role and he ultimately didn’t win that battle but still recorded two saves, he’s appeared in 21 games going 0-3 with a 4.34 ERA, a 3.94 FIP, a 1.76 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 18.2 innings.
RHP – Mason Englert
