The Detroit Tigers play the middle game of their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox tonight. They are coming off a dominant 14-2 win last night in which they outhit the Red Sox 18-6. Jackson Jobe pitched 5.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits. He walked five and struck out seven. Sean Guenther and John Brebbia combined to go 3.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits. They didn’t issue a walk and struck out two.

In today’s game, Tyler Holton will get the ball to start the game as an opener. Keider Montero will get the bulk of the work. He is being called up from Triple-A Toledo. Montero is 1-1 this season with a 4.15 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. In three starts at Triple-A, he is 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. To make room for Montero, Chase Lee has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo. Lee, in eight appearances, posted a 1.00 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP, and had nine strikeouts in nine innings.

Keider Montero

Montero made his big-league debut last season. He made 19 appearances, with 16 of those coming as starts. Montero went 6-6 with a 4.76 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 77 strikeouts in 98.1 innings. He appeared in two games in the playoffs last season, posting a 0.00 ERA, a 0.33 WHIP, and three strikeouts in three innings. In 13 games with Toledo last season, he went 1-4 with a 5.03 ERA, a 1.70 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. In 122 career games, 109 of those came as starts in his tenure within the Tigers organization. He is 35-35 with a 4.21 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 520 strikeouts in 496.1 innings.
