Today is Opening Day and the Detroit Tigers are taking on the Chicago White Sox with Tarik Skubal on the mound going up against Garrett Crochet for the Chicago White Sox. Ahead of today’s game the Detroit Tigers made the following roster moves.
- RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long placed on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain retroactive to March 25th
- RHP Miguel Diaz designated for assignment
Tigers Moves By The Numbers
Sawyer Gipson-Long
Gipson-Long last year pitched at Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo making 22 appearances with 19 of them coming as starts, he went 8-8 with a 4.33 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and 126 strikeouts in 99.2 innings. He made his big-league debut last season on September 10th against the Chicago White Sox going five innings he gave up two runs on four hits; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out five. He finished the season making four starts going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA, a 3.16 FIP, a 1.10 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts in 20 innings.
Miguel Diaz
Diaz spent time at Triple-A Toledo making 49 appearances going 2-4 with a 5.05 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 57 innings. He also pitched with the Tigers making 12 appearances and three of those appearances came as starts going 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA, a 2.04 FIP, a 0.92 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in 14 innings. He has spent six seasons in the big leagues spending two with the Tigers and four years before that with the Padres, he made 87 appearances with eight of those coming as starts going 6-2 with a 4.84 ERA, a 4.99 FIP, a 1.36 WHIP, and 132 strikeouts in 126.1 innings.
