The Detroit Tigers picked up a 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday to improve to 9-8 in Grapefruit League play. The offense was led by Spencer Torkelson who went 2-3 with four RBI and a run scored, Torkelson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth and had a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Casey Mize got the start going 3.1 shutout innings giving up just one hit; he walked three and struck out four.

Today they will face the New York Yankees at 1:05 PM EST at Publik Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, FL. Jackson Jobe gets the ball for Detroit going up against Max Fried for New York. Jobe is the fourth-ranked overall prospect by ITD. He is 1-0 this spring with a 3.12 ERA, a 0.81 WHIP, and five strikeouts in 8.2 innings. Fried in one start this spring went 2.1 innings giving up two runs on two hits; he walked one and struck out two. Yesterday the Tigers optioned infielder Hao-Yu Lee, and catcher/first baseman Thayron Liranzo to minor league camp.

Hao-Yu Lee

Lee this spring in 22 games hit .136 with a .467 OPS; he had two doubles, and three runs scored. Last season with Double-A Erie he played in 87 games. He hit .298 with a .851 OPS. Lee had 19 doubles, five triples, 12 home runs, 56 RBI, and 55 runs scored.

Thayron Liranzo

Liranzo the 80th-ranked prospect by ITD in 12 games this spring hit .158 with a .778 OPS. Liranzo had a double, a triple, a home run, six RBI, and two runs scored. Last season he played at High-A West Michigan after being acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Liranzo played in 26 games hitting .315 with a 1.031 OPS. He had seven doubles, five home runs, 20 RBI, and 17 runs scored.
