This evening the Detroit Tigers acquired a 19-year-old LHP from the San Diego Padres in Blake Dickerson in exchange for $500,000 in International bonus pool money. The one thing the Tigers seem to have an abundance of is pitching and with this love that continues. The current rotation features names such as Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Kenta Maeda, Casey Mize, and Matt Manning. With depth pieces such as Sawyer Gipson-Long, Beau Brieske, Alex Faedo, and Joey Wentz. They also have pieces such as Ty Madden, Jackson Jobe, Keider Montero, and Wilmer Flores among others in the system. Now you can add a pitcher like Dickerson to that list.
Blake Dickerson By The Numbers
Dickerson was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 12th round of this past season’s draft and was assigned to the Padres rookie team in the Arizona Complex League but he never appeared in a game. He was ranked as the top LHP and the third overall player coming out of high school in Virginia in 2023, and he was ranked the sixth LHP and the 56th overall player out of high school in 2023. He pitched at Ocean Lakes in Virginia Beach, VA, and in his senior year, he made seven appearances according to Max Preps going 3-0 with a 1.22 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 28.2 innings. In 2023 he was also ranked as the Padres 19th overall prospect in their system.
Bottom Line: Tigers Are Loaded With Pitching Prospects
The Detroit Tigers in 2024 will be loaded with pitching and have a real shot to win the American League Central which they haven’t done since 2014 which was also the last time they made the playoffs. Dickerson will likely crack the top 30 of the Tigers system soon but that ranking for ITD will not be released until after Spring Training and Dickerson will be a player to watch in the minor leagues in 2024.
