- Carson Kelly returns on a club option.
- Tyler Alexander Designated for Assignment.
- Keider Montero was added to the 40-man roster.
- Austin Meadows, Riley Greene, Casey Mize, and Freddy Pacheco were Activated from the 60-day injured list.
- Trey Wingenter and Andrew Vasquez Cleared Waivers.
- Zack Short was Claimed off waivers by the New York Mets.
Roster Moves By The Numbers
Carson Kelly
Kelly appeared in 18 games for the Tigers in 2023, having spent most of the season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. With the Tigers, he slashed .173/.271/.269 with a .540 OPS; he had two doubles, one home run, seven RBI, seven runs scored, and seven walks.
Tyler Alexander
Alexander in 2023 appeared in 25 games, with one of those being a start; he went 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA, a 4.10 FIP, a 1.11 WHIP, a 1.6 HR/9, a 1.0 BB/9, and a 9.0 K/9.
Keider Montero
Montero spent 2023 across three levels of the Tigers system with High-A West Michigan, Double-A Erie, and Triple-A Toledo. He appeared in 27 games with 26 starts, going 15-4 with a 4.66 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, a 1.1 HR/9, a 3.5 BB/9, and an 11.3 K/9. With Triple-A, he appeared in eight games, with seven being starts, going 5-2 with a 4.93 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, a 1.7 HR/9, a 3.0 BB/9, and a 10.1 K/9.
Austin Meadows
Meadows only played in six games this season, slashing .238/.238/.286 with a .524 OPS; he had one double and two RBI.
Riley Greene
Greene is the centerpiece of the Tigers’ future, and in 2023, he appeared in 99 games. He posted a slash line of .288/.349/.447 with a .796 OPS; he had 19 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, 37 RBI, 51 runs scored, seven stolen bases, and 35 walks. His season came to an end after he underwent Tommy John surgery.
Casey Mize
Mize didn’t pitch in 2023 as he was recovering from Tommy John surgery. In 2022, he made two starts going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA, a 4.21 FIP, a 1.50 WHIP, a 0.9 HR/9, a 1.8 BB/9, and a 3.6 K/9.
Freddy Pacheco
Pacheco did not pitch for the Tigers in 2023 or any of their minor league affiliates. He pitched in 2022 with the St. Louis Cardinals across Double-A and Triple-A. He appeared in 50 games, going 3-7 with a 3.05 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, a 0.9 HR/9, a 4.1 BB/9, and a 12.2 K/9.
Trey Wingenter
Wingenter spent time this season with Single-A, Triple-A, and the Tigers. With the Tigers, he appeared in 17 games, going 1-0 with a 5.82 ERA, a 3.96 FIP, a 1.35 WHIP, a 1.1 HR/9, a 3.7 BB/9, and an 11.6 K/9.
Andrew Vasquez
Vasquez spent 2023 with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tigers; with the Tigers, he pitched in Triple-A and the Majors. With Detroit, he appeared in 12 games going 0-0 with an 8.31 ERA, a 4.99 FIP, a 2.30 WHIP, a 0.0 HR/9, a 9.3 BB/9, and a 9.3 H/9.
Zack Short
In 2023, Short spent time with the Tigers Triple-A affiliate and the MLB. With Detroit, he played 110 games and slashed .204/.292/.339 with a .631 OPS; he had nine doubles, seven home runs, 33 RBI, 17 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 28 walks. Short being claimed by the New York Mets is a homecoming for him as he is from Kingston, NY.
