Detroit Tigers News & Notes 2/22

Could the Detroit Tigers Do the Unthinkable?

The Detroit Tigers are 35 days from Opening Day, and they signed Gio Urshela earlier today to a one-year $1.5 million deal. This Saturday they will play their first Spring Training game against the New York Yankees and then on Sunday they will face the Tampa Bay Rays. The starters for both of those games have been announced. The starter against the Yankees on Saturday will be Reese Olson and then Alex Faedo will get the ball on Sunday against the Rays. Among other news coming out of Lakeland today, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch mentioned that he has told Tigers prospects Jace Jung, Jackson Jobe, and Ty Madden that they will not be on the Opening Day roster to start the 2024 season. Jung has been working on playing third base which is something he will continue to focus on this spring as well as this season when he is sent down to the minors.
