The Detroit Tigers President of Baseball Operations, Scott Harris, shows he will be active this off-season as free agency begins today. Over the weekend, the Tigers acquired Mark Canha from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league RHP Blake Holub. There are rumors that the Tigers are interested in KBO star outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, who currently plays for the Kiwoon Heroes in the KBO league.
Jung Hoo Lee By The Numbers
Lee is only 25 years old and won’t turn 26 until August, and in seven seasons in the KBO, he has slashed .340/.407/.491 with a .898 OPS; he has 244 doubles, 43 triples, 65 home runs, 515 RBI, 581 runs scored, 69 stolen bases, and 383 walks. This season, he is slashing .318/.406/.455 with a .860 OPS; he has 23 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 45 RBI, 50 runs scored, six stolen bases, 49 walks and has a wRC+ of 139.
Wrap Up:
Lee will not be posted until the end of the month at the earliest, most likely around Thanksgiving, as the Korean Series starts tomorrow, and the announcement has to wait until the season is over. Adding Lee would boost the Tigers and the outfield, which already includes Riley Greene and Akil Baddoo, and saw Parker Meadows make his big league debut. The Tigers will be looking to add to a team that saw a solid second half as they finished 2023 just four games under .500. In 2024, they will look to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
