The Detroit Tigers are currently in holding the final playoff spot in the wild-card chase by one game over the Minnesota Twins. With six games left, they will face the Tampa Bay Rays tomorrow and then end the regular season against the Chicago White Sox this weekend. The Tigers who have been the hottest team in baseball as of late control their fate right now and even have the chance to move into the fourth or the fifth seed in the postseason as well as just clinching their spot in October especially after they sold at the trade deadline, however, one of the pieces they got in selling in Trey Sweeney saved their season this weekend with a game-saving catch on Saturday which allowed them to be in the position they are right now and now they are calling up their second-ranked prospect and the tenth overall prospect in all of baseball according to ITD in Jackson Jobe.
Jobe this season has pitched at High-A West Michigan, Double-A Erie, and Triple-A Toledo making 21 starts going 5-3 with a 2.36 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, a 4.4 BB/9, and a 9.4 K/9 in 91.2 innings. At West Michigan he made three starts going 0-1 with a 2.00 ERA, a 0.67 WHIP, a 2.0 BB/9, and an 8.0 K/9 in nine innings. At Erie he made 16 starts going 4-2 with a 1.95 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, a 4.6 BB/9, and a 9.9 K/9 in 73.2 innings. At Toledo, he’s made two starts going 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA, a 1.89 WHIP, a 5.0 BB/9, and a 7.0 K/9 in nine innings. In his last start, he faced the Cleveland Guardians affiliate going five innings giving up two runs on four hits; he walked three and struck out four. He will be activated for this Rays series and attempt to help the Tigers make it to the postseason.
