Detroit Tigers American League Wild Card Roster Announced

The Detroit Tigers will play the Houston Astros in a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the American League Divison Series against the Cleveland Guardians. Ahead of the first pitch tonight which will have Tarik Skubal on the bump, the remainder of the Tigers roster has been announced.

Roster

Pitchers

RHP – Beau Brieske
RHP – Jason Foley
LHP – Sean Guenther
RHP – Brenan Hanifee
LHP – Tyler Holton
RHP – Brant Hurter
RHP – Jackson Jobe

LHP – Tarik Skubal
RHP – Will Vest

There was much speculation about how many pitchers AJ Hinch would carry into this series, and he’s decided to go with 12 of the 26 roster spots. Kenta Maeda was left off after he threw on Sunday so the Tigers could save their bullpen arms for this series. The other head-scratcher is no Keider Montero who was a big part of the Tigers getting here but he pitched on Sunday as well and will likely be on the ALDS roster assuming the Tigers move on. The likely rotation will be Skubal, Reese Olson, and everyone available if the series goes three. The goal is to win today.

Catchers

Dillon Dingler
Jake Rogers

Both of these guys are here for their defense, as both hit under .200. Rogers did provide some spark and big moments in the Tigers’ second-half success. Both guys are liked by the pitching staff and are trusted to make the right calls.

Position Players

DH – Kerry Carpenter
OF – Riley Greene
INF – Andy Ibanez
INF – Jace Jung
INF – Colt Keith
OF – Wenceel Perez
OF – Justyn-Henry Malloy
UTL – Zach McKinstry
OF – Parker Meadows
SS – Trey Sweeney
1B – Spencer Torkelson
UTL – Matt Vierling

The bats that were expected to be on the roster are and if they can ride the momentum of the second half this season, they can be dangerous. Torkelson has been a pleasant spark since his return from Toledo but the real spark in Parker Meadows who inspired this run once, he returned to the Tigers’ everyday lineup doing it with his glove and his bat.
