The Colorado Rockies get ready to play against the San Diego Padres this afternoon in Cactus League play. The Rockies have ten wins, eight losses, and one tie so far this spring. As we are now 15 days away from Opening Day, the Colorado Rockies have announced a flurry of moves. The team optioned catching prospect Drew Romo to the Albuquerque Isotopes to start his year. There were other moves made today as well.

Drew Romo – Catcher

The Colorado Rockies have optioned Drew Romo to the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes to start his season. This spring Romo had 17 at-bats with one run scored, two hits, and a batting average of .118. Drew Romo while in Triple-A season last year. Romo participated in 85 games. Also hit 19 doubles, 4 triples, and 14 home runs. He achieved 60 RBIs and a batting average of .297. He did have a cup of coffee with the big league club last year. Romo played in 16 games with the Rockies last year. In those games, he ended up with six RBIs, 18 strikeouts, and three doubles. He had a batting average of .176 and a slash line of .208/.235/.443.

Adael Amador – Second base

The Colorado Rockies have optioned Amador to Triple-A to start the season with the Albuquerque Isotopes. This spring, with the Rockies, he had 27 at-bats. Amador scored five runs. He had eight hits and nine RBIs. He also had a batting average of .296. Amador played in 10 games with the Rockies last year and finsihed with a .171 batting average and a slash line of ..194/.200/.394. The rest of the year he spent in Double-A with the Hartford Yard Goats.

Assigned to Today’s roster

After the Rockies optioned both Romo and Amador, the team announced roster moves. They assigned the following three players before their game against the Padres.

Outfielders Juan Guerrero and Braiden Ward were assigned to the Rockies roster today before the game with the Padres. Shortstop Herlington Herrera joins Guerrero and Ward as he was also assigned to the roster today before the game. Guerrero and Ward both finished last year with the Hartford Yard Goats. Herrera was signed last January 15th, 2024. He spent the summer in the Dominican summer league for Colorado. All three players hope to get a chance to show their skills to the Rockies.

Overview

The Rockies are in a tough National League West. They continue to develop young talent. Drew Romo was optioned to Triple-A. The hope is that with consistent everyday at-bats, he can continue to progress. He has his eye on next year’s opening-day roster.
