The Seattle Mariners have re-assigned top prospect Cole Young to minor league camp. Young is the No. 3 prospect in the Mariners farm system according to MLB Pipeline, and the No. 49 prospect in the Top 100. While there was a slim chance that he made the big-league roster out of spring training. Young will likely start at Triple-A Tacoma, but could get the call at some point this season. An injury at the beginning of camp had held him from playing at second base for at least a week. During that time, he continued to play and was limited to DH duties.

Spring Training stats don’t mean much, but Young struggled this spring. He hit .190/.227/.238 with 4 hits, 1 double, 2 runs and an RBI. He also struck out 6 times and walked once.
While there is a void at second base for the Seattle Mariners, this doesn’t come as a surprise. The 20-year-old prospect has only one full season at the AA level or higher. So, he could use a little more seasoning. It appears that the Seattle Mariners will start Ryan Bliss or Dylan Moore at second base. A position that has been plagued with little production in the post-Robinson Cano era.

The Mariners also sent their No. 13 prospect Ben Williamson back to minor league camp. The third base prospect saw more success this spring whilst hitting .365/.474/.500 with 6 hits, 1 triple, and 4 RBIs in 11 games. The Mariners will likely start Jorge Polanco at third base this season. Williamson is another prospect that could reach the MLB ranks at some point in 2025.
The Mariners still have 43 players in camp with 34 players on the 40-man roster, 1 on the 60-day IL and 8 non-roster invitees.
