
The Cincinnati Reds prepare to take on the Kansas City Royals today in Cactus League action. Before the game today, the Reds have optioned a pitcher to Triple-A. They have also signed Jose Trevino to a two-year extension. The Reds have not yet confirmed Trevino’s details. However, the veteran catcher will remain under team control through 2027. The Reds are winding down spring training as they prepare to take on the San Francisco Giants on opening day.

Jose Trevino
Jose Trevino has signed a two-year 11.5 million dollar contract to keep him with the Cincinnati Reds through the 2027 season. The Veteran Catcher joined the team during the off-season. He was part of a trade with the New York Yankees. In exchange, Fernando Cruz and Alex Jackson were traded. Jose Trevino is a solid defensive catcher, but offensively not a great bat. Last year with the Yankees he had a .215 batting average and a slash line of .288/.354/.642.
Lyon Richardson
The Cincinnati Reds have optioned Richardson to Triple-A today to start his year off pitching for the Louisville Bats. Richardson has appeared in eight games so far this spring for the Reds. In those eight games, he has worked a total of nine innings. He leaves training camp with a 2.00 ERA, nine strikeouts, and a 1.33 WHIP. Last season he spent most of his time in the minors. He made 19 starts in Triple-A. These were out of 25 total appearances. He only recorded one win and lost seven games. He had a 4.67 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP with Louisville last year.
